Many of the people I talk to are really busy. And they’re looking for different ways to think about how they can get the most out of every day. The problem is that most of us go and read books. And we learn other people’s systems. And that systems don’t work for us. And what can happen is we get frustrated, so we throw it all out, and then we end up as busy as we always were.
The Problem
When you’ve got a system and a system only, you don’t have the mindset or the way of thinking that enables you to make that system happen. So if you get this right, your system feels like its arduous. It feels like something that’s like a monkey on your back. If you get this right, you know what to do every single second.
The Mindset
The thing I think that is going to help people for the next 20 years in this world of noise, be more productive is being all present. When we concentrate on being more present, it actually makes any product, every system work. So this can work with any system. Which is good, right? Because it means you don’t have to throw out what you’ve got. You don’t have to read a new book, because there’s so many out there.
Concept Called Consciousness
Everyone talks about what consciousness is and here’s the simple definition: Consciousness basically means that on a daily basis, your thinking, or you’re aware of your own thinking. Sometimes we just walk around in unaware mode, where we’re unthinking and we’re just responding to what’s going on around us. That would be not being conscious.
Conscious is where we have our consciousness of where we are, and what we’re doing. And that’s what being present is.
So if you think about a ratio like that, we probably want to spend 10% of our time being present, thinking about the future. But we want to spend 60 to 80% of our energy getting the most from we can in every single moment. With the leftover time, we want to learn from what we’ve done in the past, because we’ve all made mistakes.
Summary
Try and be more conscious of being aware of your thinking. Be aware of what’s going on with you around you, but also be more on your body. The second is, try to spend more of your thinking time being in the present, not the past and the future. And the third is, allow that thinking, then, to be, get the most out of the moments you’re in.
Whatever system you’re using to be more productive, it will be helped by being more present in every single moment. If you find yourself being either worrying, or planning for the future, or thinking and turning about the past more than being more present, try to cultivate this type of thinking. And being more present will help you get more out of every single day.
