Today we’ll be talking about personal responsibility – in my series on personal leadership and transformation as the result of the past 12 months.
Bottom Line Up Front
When we are faced with challenges, there are things we can control and things we can’t. It’s super healthy to focus on things you can control and overtime trying to expand out that circle of influence. For the purposes of today’s conversation we are going to focus on those things at work you can’t control and how you respond.
Examples could be: office politics, someone else’s behaviour, budgets getting reduced, COVID pandemic!, the availability of the next career step for you.
We’ve got two choices with the things that we can can’t control, we can either respond:
Here’s the Explanation:
Imagine there’s a line, in the situations where you can’t control things, where do you operate on the line?
Above the Line
So if you operate below the line in those situations you
And when we operate below the line in an environment where we can’t control things we become disengaged, we become frustrated and it sucks. Because we feel like we don’t have any control or agency.
Below the Line
If you imagine above the line, it allows us to move forward, instead of blaming you take ownership , instead of denying things you take personal responsibility.
What about you?
So my question is are you below the line or above the line? Are you taking personal responsibility or you blaming, avoiding, or denying?
